I am back. Sort of.
Things in life are all topsy-turvy, as I’m sure you know, unless you live somewhere that the recession isn’t reaching its filthy little fingers into your paycheck and wallet. If you are, let me know, and we’re moving there.
But on a happier note, Owen turned 10 months old a few days ago, and he is changing so much! Three days ago he pulled himself up to his feet in his playpen for the first time and now he won’t stop trying to stand up everywhere. He’s already bonked his head/face a few times on the coffee table. Ouch!
Well its for real - we are going to have a white Christmas, and MORE than that we’re going to have the whitest Christmas ever! The record is a measly 1.5 inches, and we’ve still got at least 15 inches here - 7 inches fell on Sunday night/Monday morning. I tried to measure how much total there was, but I got stopped by the layer of ice we had on top of the snow we got on… last Wednesday? The days are mushing together.
We got about 2-3 more inches of snow today. Things are starting to warm up across the region, but here its still below freezing. Our garbage can is under the gutters, under a giant icicle (we removed it once already), and it is covered by about 6 inches of ice. Its just incredible. They’re forecasting snow tomorrow (and rain), and some snow on Friday too! Crazy!
Here’s some pictures of the last few days - I am trying to keep track of what day is which, but my brain is slush. Haha a snow reference!
ACK can’t get the picture uploader to work! I’ll try again later…
edit: Ah ha it works! I upgraded, borked it, and then reuploaded everything and now it works! A Christmas miracle!
I can’t say I blame him. But I didn’t expect his reaction! Once he smelled it and it touched his mouth he gagged and urped up! I figured this might be a coincidence, and so continued to try to get him to eat his peas… but no. When he gagged for the second time I gave up, but not before Ty took some great pictures (with my NEW Nikon D60 he got me for my birthday/Christmas present)!
He’s just freakin’ adorable, even when not eating his vegetables! I suppose I’ll try pears next.

We arrived back home late late late Saturday nightaround 7 am Sunday morning. The return trip to the Great Northwest from the deserts of Southern California took even longer than the trip down (twenty-ONE hours) but Owen was mostly happy and content the entire time. So it was more enjoyable from that perspective.
He slept, as it were, like a baby. So now I know, drinking a Rockstar to keep Mommy awake for driving also keeps Baby awake for the trip as well. I feel terrible, but he’s none the worse for wear, and I shall never do it again. For some reason I thought “hey I drink caffeinated drinks so a Rockstar shouldn’t bother him” but I was wrong and we all paid for it on the way down to California.
Speaking of California, they had a 5.8 earthquake today. Guess we got out of there just in time! Just kidding, I’m actually a bit nostalgic when it comes to quakes. And as far as I know there were no injuries or damage caused by this little rocker.
Owen is so cute these days - he’s really started sucking his thumb with gusto. He’s to the point where if he’s tired the thumb will put him over the top and to sleep almost immediately. And he’s started doing the ol’ bait-and-switch with me when he’s nursing. One minute he’s eating correctly and the next - pop! In goes the thumb.
Isn’t he cute! Of course, I was a thumbsucker as well, and my parents couldn’t break me of the habit. I mean, they really couldn’t. I’m probably going to need all my wits about me to keep him from completely ruining his teeth. I sucked my thumb ’til I was eight years old. Yeah. I think peer pressure finally stopped me, or maybe I was convinced I was too old to suck my thumb. Which, of course, I was. I have a lovely memory though, I’m actually not sure why I stopped. However! I’m glad I did. So is my orthodontist.
I have a great smile now. Thanks Mom and Dad!
More on the San Diego Zoo and fun with cousins later.
whaaaaat, originally uploaded by jainhollie.
Owen is 10 pounds, 12 ounces, and 23 inches long today! He had his two month check and passed with flying colors. We are not getting him vaccinated, so he was not ‘rewarded’ for doing so well by being stuck with a bunch of needles.
I need to blog more. In other news, I am on my fourth week of work, which means in just 4 more work days I can put in my notice! Hooray!
